Description of the Project This project looked at the efficacy of a manual toothbrush versus a power toothbrush in the reduction of plaque. My hypothesis is that using an electrical toothbrush will reduce more plaque than a manual because it vibrates to get in to tough spots that are hard to reach with a manual. Read more

Description of the Project The student wants to assess the heart rates of 4 participants (adults) before, during and after 20 minutes of treadmill exercise. There will be3 trials: 1 with no caffeine, one with Red Bull, and one with coffee. Although these are adults, who normally consume coffee, the committee hesitates to approve this project. Description of the Project Students in grade 9 were asked to fill out a brief survey voluntarily. Adult participants were from the parents workplaces who volunteered to fill out and anonymously submit survey. The survey consisted of questions eliciting motivation related information. Read more

Description of the Project To construct the bio-digester, I used a large fifty gallon barrel filled one-third of the waywith water. A probe and bucket heater were then placed into the barrel because in order toeffectively produce bio-gas, the temperature of the manure must be around 37°C. The probewould keep the temperature of the water so that if it was below the thirty-seven degreetemperature, it would send a signal to the heater to turn on. This was simply hooked up using aprogrammable thermostat. I then had a twenty litre oil container filled with fifteen litres of manure. Read more

Description of the Project Title: Effect of Potassium on Reaction Time. I think that a potassium supplement will slightly improve reaction time. I think this because nerves use potassium for impulse transmission, so logically, increasing the intake of potassium should result in improved reaction time, particularly in individuals with inadequate potassium in their diets. The substances I plan to use are Jamieson’s 50 mg Potassium tablets and “Wake Ups” 100mg caffeine tablets for comparison. Read more

Description of the Project We plan to test two different types of pellets (pointy and hollow tipped) to measure what happens when we shoot into different materials (1' Styrofoam and 1/2' gyp rock) at various distances (25', 35' and 70'). We will be using two different pellet guns. One is 22 caliber which is spring loaded and one that is .177 caliber which is air powered . We both have our Fire Arms Safety course. Read more

Description of the Project Students worked with phys-ed teachers in school to determine if optimal mental and physical fitness levels occurred before school (8 a.m.) or after school. (3:30 p.m.). Student participants were given an informed consent / permission form. Participants were to return with the consent form signed by their parents as well as themselves. They were tested on five attributes: memory, coordination, reaction time, muscle endurance, and cardiovascular endurance. Read more

Description of the Project The effects of music on the human memory were tested using the music of J.S. Bach. Various aspects of music such as tonality and harmonic structure were investigated when looking for what in music may be the leading cause to retaining more information. The results only were assessed and results did not contain any other personal information other than the individuals age, grade and gender. which were only used when calculating results . Participants in this experiment were not later consulted about the experiment. Read more

Description of the Project The project will be a correlation study to attempt to determine any patterns between life style and iodine levels of the people in our community. The study will include approximately 30 subjects of whom will all be 18 years or older. The subjects will be selected based on word of mouth. Read more
